You might think that with skyscraping budgets, large organizations would all be getting their websites custom-made on some elusive and exclusive web development platform. A platform that only the kind of developers with twenty screens (like the ones you see in the movies) know how to operate. If so, it might come as a surprise to you to learn that many famous and well-established brands use none other than the humble Shopify to build their online shops.

Here is a look at some of the more surprising businesses with Shopify shops:

1.Tesla

That’s right, folks. The American electric vehicle and clean energy company, Tesla, has a Shopify shop. What a testament to Shopify’s innovation that one of the most visionary companies to exist deems it worthy enough for their online store.

Elon Musk went so far as to personally endorse Shopify on his Twitter account, sending Shopify stocks soaring in January of this year (2021). He revealed that Shopify was also used for Space X too!

The clean design of the Tesla website centers around beautiful, high-quality images of their vehicles. The result is minimal, modern, and glossy – a perfect design that fits with the business language of Tesla.

2.Sephora

Cosmetics giant, Sephora, is another example of a well-known brand that uses Shopify. Shopify Plus is Shopify’s answer to businesses with high traffic. Shopify is often questioned over its ability to scale and manage high-traffic sites. But a fast-moving consumer goods brand like Sephora successfully running a site is all the proof you need that Shopify can handle it.

Sephora’s website is simple, functional, and given the sheer range of products on offer, surprisingly easy to navigate.

3.Staples Canada

Back in 2017, Staples Canada splintered off from its US parent enabling the brand to take a new direction. The challenge of migrating to their Shopify Plus site was enormous given the scale of the organization and the fact that this coincided with a brand spanking new rebrand. However, Shopify managed a speedy and successful changeover.

Since running their online shop on Shopify, Staples Canada has been able to run over four times more online promotions per day and has withstood an incredible increase in traffic and turnover as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic which forced many people to set up home offices.

4.L’Occitane

L’Occitane’s brick-and-mortar stores have an incredibly unique and successful brand image. Classic, timeless, and with the feeling that you’re walking into a ye olde apothecary. This kind of business language isn’t always the easiest to translate into an online shop on Shopify. Yet, along with a stellar marketing strategy, L’Occitane achieved incredible success online, and now boasts over a billion Euros in sales per year.

The bold and bright ochre color that has been part of L’Occitane’s branding for decades has been used to high effect in their web design, drawing the eye to call-to-action buttons and adding a youch of modernity to the online brand.

5.The Economist

Not exactly a Shopify shop, we’ve included The Economist here as an example of a company that uses Shopify to manage its subscription model. With over $400 million dollars in annual revenue, Shopify is obviously able to handle their high numbers of traffic.

It’s also interesting to see Shopify here used as a news site, showing how flexible Shopify can be.

6.Heinz

Cast your mind back to the onset of the pandemic. Shoppers frantically stocked up their pantries not knowing how affected food supplies would be as a result of lockdown. Sales of tinned goods went through the roof and shelves were cleared of staples including the humble baked bean.

Heinz faced concerned customers in the UK, including vulnerable people, who were worried about not being able to access their products. What better time to launch a direct-to-consumer site? Heinz needed the job done fast. Within just 7 days of signing a contract with Shopify, their new website, Heinz to home, was launched.

This is just a handful of many large and well-known businesses using Shopify for their online stores. For more articles about Shopify and managing your online business, visit our blog.
